Our Ribbon Spool ornaments were a big hit this year! I think I am going start a tradition and make some each year. We made them both using simply paint and glitter and with a family photo inside. Both styles were cute and kid friendly to craft.
Here's How:
Materials
Empty cardboard ribbon spools
glitter
white glue
acrylic paint
1. remove one side of the cardboard round on a empty ribbon spool.
2. Paint your empty ribbon spool with side removed on both front and back
3. Once dry, apply white glue (such as Elmer's) to the edges of your spool or anyplace you would like glitter to adhere using Q-tips. I used both the standard Q-tips version and Precision tip, which worked great!
4. Dip the glued edges of your spool into glitter
5. Allow to dry
6. Cover the hole in the center of the spool (if desired) with either a glued circle round (glittered) or decorative tape (I used a glittery gold "Trim" tape. You can also print out a favorite family photo, cut to size and glue to the inside of the spool.
7. Form a loop out of a ribbon and hot-glue to the back of the spool so you can hang your pretty ornament on your tree!
Take a bow! Your ornament is complete! Q-tips saved the day once again!
